CHOCOLATE CHIP CAKE BARS         Margaret Reid

 

1 pkg. yellow cake mix

2 eggs

¼ cup brown sugar

¼ cup butter or margarine, melted

¼ cup water

2 cups chocolate chips, divided

½ cup walnuts or pecans, chopped

1 Tbsp shortening 

 

In a mixing bowl, combine the first 5 ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.  Stir in 1 ½ cups chocolate chips and the nuts.  Spread in a greased 13 X 9 pan.  Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned and a toothpick come out clean from center. Cool on wire rack.  Melt shortening with remaining chips, drizzle over the top.  Cut into bars.    Yield: about 3 ½  dozen cookies.

 

Note:  You can substitute any flavor chips or use one flavor in the bars and one flavor for the topping.
